BOUDOIR DOESN’T MEAN NAKED
August 12, 2022
When scheduling Miss J’s session with me, she expressed how she nervous she was to do a boudoir session. She expressed how at her age (even though she knows how amazing she looks and how proud she is for being fit), she didn’t know if she should. Besides, age ain’t nothing but a number! I immediately told her, “That is WHY you should have a session!!!” and that she’d totally rock it. Which she did! Obviously.
WHEN ANXIETY TAKES OVER…
The weeks leading up to her session, I could tell how nervous she was. She expressed that I made her feel brave and how she wanted to honor herself. I couldn’t agree more! Plus, when your client wants to keep her smoldering down to a level 2, you honor that.
When Miss J walked into the studio, I could tell right away how nervous she was. The anxiety of having a respectful session to honor where she is in her life and to give beautiful pictures to her husband was in full force!
I always start off with wardrobe. We went though what she brought and I showed her what I picked out for her, which was an 20’s vintage vibe that covered her in all the right places. It was perfect!
Off to hair and makeup! Once in my chair, we chatted about the look and I promised to make her natural and soft. Nailed it!
When hair and makeup is done and the client puts on their first outfit, the nerves kick in big time for most. It was definitely true for Miss J. The first set is always the most important to me. It’s to show them how gorgeous they are. For me, I wanted to make sure to capture her so her loved ones will say “WOW” when she shared her photos with them.
After a few shots, that is the time to share the back of my camera so they can see how absolutely beautiful they are. To hear the words, “oh wow, you really do know what you’re doing” is always the best! Now they see what I see and that is when they relax and really trust the process.
We hopped from set to set, laughing and having the best time, all the while making sure I was respecting her wishes to keep her session at the level she wanted. It is also what I wanted. I wanted to show others that boudoir isn’t just bras and panty sets, that you can wear anything and still feel confident, sexy and empowered.
After the last set in the egg chair, she changed and we hugged. We were both proud that she found the courage to step out of her comfort zone and I was honored that she trusted me with her boudoir session. That is the best feeling.
